A Wrinkle in Time
This September, Crystal Sea Drama Co. brings another literary masterpiece to the stage. This year’s senior intensive is a production of A Wrinkle In Time.
Like many teens, our heroine, Meg Murry, struggles to find her place as she battles her stubbornness and flaws. She and her odd, yet endearing, little brother – Charles Wallace – don’t seem to fit in at school, and Meg is constantly distracted by the absence of her father.
But Meg’s story takes a peculiar turn after an encounter with Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who, and Mrs. Which that pulls Meg Murry, Charles Wallace, and their new friend, Calvin O’Keefe on a quest through time and space to rescue Meg’s father from a planet covered in darkness.
Swept away on this grand adventure, Meg searches for her father and inadvertently begins to find part of herself as well. The beauty of this show is the audience is given the opportunity to learn alongside her as she discovers how to forgive and find beauty in her flaws. “Your power to forgive will be your strongest tool,” says Kenzie Oviedo, the high school senior playing Meg Murry. “Wrath will hold you down, but learning to let go relieves that weight.”
Meg isn’t the only character developing during this play. Ellie Moellendorf, another senior, who plays the role of Mrs. Whatsit states, “Mrs. Whatsit is still growing alongside the children. She had lost hope for a while, but she has started to gain it again as she helps these kids and watches them bring back the hope and spark the world needs.”
A Wrinkle In Time opened at CSDC this past weekend. Tickets are still available for shows from September 20-22 at crystalseadrama.org. We hope you will join us to watch the growth of our sweet cast of characters.
“Who knows,” Kenzie says, “maybe after seeing the show you will go on to defeat a giant disembodied brain, too.”
